“To innovate is to use knowledge, and generate it if necessary, to create products, services or processes, which are new to the company, or to improve existing ones, thereby succeeding in the market” (Oslo Manual 1997)

It conveys to us that to innovate is to use knowledge to create products, services and processes and bring them to the market

Innovation is synonymous with successfully producing, assimilating and exploiting a novelty, in the economic and social spheres, in a way that provides unprecedented solutions to problems and thus responds to the needs of people and society (EC White Paper)

In the definition of Innovation in the EC White Paper, another dimension is introduced: social innovation, that is to say that innovation responds to people’s needs.
